Lower School

The Lower School Programs

The Lower School at Woodland Country Day School nurtures First through Fourth Grade students in a safe and engaging learning environment. Beginning in First Grade, our teachers instill a strong work ethic and encourage children to become responsible for themselves and their actions.  Academics, Music, Art, and Technology are at the forefront of our program, along with manners and socialization.

The lower school offers a traditional academic program with an emphasis on language. Students are given a solid foundation in basic skills that support higher levels of abstract thinking. Primary grade teachers integrate reading, writing, and oral language in studying language and literature, science and nature, history and geography, and art, music, and drama. Students begin learning cursive handwriting in second grade, as penmanship is a foundation in our program of study.

In the Lower School, students will:

Grow self-esteem and self-confidence

Develop a love of learning

Build an excellent academic foundation and study habits

Advance in self-discipline

Act with manners and respect for others
